A few years ago I met two people who were looking for ideas on how to discover the skills, interests, gifts and connections of people on their street. They found and sometimes created opportunities to have conversations with almost everyone on their 4 block long street. They were so excited about all they discovered; the interests, languages spoken, the kids, and how most were eager to engage with neighbours. One of the organizers was so moved he decided to plant his garden in his front yard to increase opportunities for interaction and sharing. I was reminded of his garden and looking at possibilities for spaces like yards as I biked by this street side garden last week. What’s growing in your neighbourhood?
