A group of neighbours came together several years ago to discuss what they loved about their Westwood neighbourhood. It started as a small group usually meeting at a local bar. “Meeting” was a loose way to describe this gathering. It was people in conversation about what you cared about and ideas to build on the capacities in the neighbourhood. A neighborhood mural, History Walks, community dinners, Front Yard Fiestas, a Treasure Qwest amazing race, Movie nights, and an Up for Grabs Day were some early ventures and ways to bring neighbours together. The first members described themselves as a “drinking group with a civic problem.”
The energy of the group and its numbers have continued to build each year still keeping its foundation of being an asset based neighbourhood group. They have moved on to extremely popular pop up beer gardens and are currently working on a redesign of the business district with several other groups. They have also always been about hospitality, assets, and building partnerships and relationships,
They are the epitome of never doubt what a small group of committed citizens can do.
