Everyone has gifts, usually many. Sometimes they are easily discovered. Sometimes it takes time and more importantly a relationship before gifts can become visible.
Simple questions can help us learn about a person’s gifts:
· Tell me about your favorite places to go.
· What do you like to do on a GREAT day?
· What do your friends like about you?
· What do you care about?
· What makes you happy?
· What are you or your family already connected to?
· Is there anything that you have always wanted to try but haven’t yet?
· Would you show me around your house?
· Is there anybody else we should talk to, or include in these conversations?
Sometimes what you see on refrigerators, desks or end tables can also give you clues about a person’s gifts. Other times it may be in someone’s reaction to topic of conversation. The most important thing is actually going out and experiencing people and places.
Invitations and introductions are powerful tools in helping people to get involved in their communities.
“Robert, would you like to come with me to see what goes on at the recreation center down the street?”
And …. when you are out what are you looking for?
